Richard and Judy have launched this year’s Summer Book Club, exclusive to WHSmith, with ten irresistible titles to complete every reader’s summer book list, it was announced today.
For the first time since the Richard and Judy Book Club launched in September 2010, the duo have added two additional titles to their selection, creating the perfect summer read compilation, with one book launched every week in WHSmith stores nationwide, as well as online, and extra bonus material once again available in the back of the books from WHSmith.
The Summer Book Club titles are a mix of debut and more established authors and the first reviewed title is Victoria Hislop’s The Thread. The entire list continues with: Jubilee by Shelley Harris, The Fear Index by Robert Harris, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Secrets Between Us by Louise Douglas, The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler, Tideline by Penny Hancock, The Book of Summers by Emylia Hall, A Perfectly Good Man by Patrick Gale and Alice Bliss by Laura Harrington.
In addition, Richard and Judy are delighted to reveal a new initiative, which sees them join forces with the Reading Agency online to help Book Club lovers find a reading group local to you - head over to the join page for more info.
To celebrate this new initiative and the launch of the Summer Book Club, WHSmith are offering reading groups across the country more than 50% off when they purchase six or more copies of any of the Book Club titles online at www.whsmith.co.uk. The summer campaign will also launch in high street stores with a Buy One Get One for £1 promotion across the country from 24th May.
Book Club fans will find yet another way to be part of Britain’s biggest Book Club this Summer, by being able to join in on live web chats each week via Richard and Judy’s Facebook page, with each of the ten selected authors – providing the perfect opportunity to ask any burning questions they or their reading group may have, direct to the author.
And as if that wasn’t enough, following its huge success to date with over 400,000 hits, Richard and Judy’s podcast series will also return, to include exclusive interviews with each author and, through the customised digital content for each title, readers will be able to scan the QR code in the back of their book to immediately download the podcast of their chosen title. They can also read the first chapter of any of the other Summer Book Club titles for free online by visiting www.whsmith.co.uk/bcchapters.
Richard Madeley said: “As the Book Club continues to grow, we want to be able to offer readers more titles and exclusive bonus content to get their teeth into – particularly over the summer, when we can all take a little more time out to read. We’re incredibly pleased that so many people are enjoying the extra content – aside from discovering great reads, one of the best parts about the Book Club is getting to meet the authors and ask the questions we’re all itching to know the answers to.”
Judy continued: “Joining a book club is such a fun way to explore the different themes and the thoughts we have when we read these titles. Richard and I thoroughly enjoy sharing our interpretations of the books we read and our questions to the authors, the podcasts and all our thoughts, are designed to help people get as much out of the Book Club titles as they can. Enjoy your summer of reading!”
All the Summer Book Club titles are available in WHSmith stores across the country from Thursday 24 May 2012, with the podcast available alongside each title every week for free on iTunes.
