The new 2014 Book Club springs into action

Thursday 2 January 2014

Richard and Judy start 2014 with the launch of their latest Book Club, exclusively with WHSmith.

Kicking off the Spring Book Club is the latest book, The Storyteller, by perennial bestseller Jodi Picoult. Jodi catapulted into the British public eye following the success of her first Richard and Judy Book Club winner, My Sister’s Keeper, and was the first author chosen by Richard and Judy to sell five million copies through Bookscan, post-Richard and Judy launch. Other titles include, A Commonplace Killing, an atmospheric crime novel set just after the Second World War. The author, Sian Busby, sadly passed away before the book was published, but it was lovingly brought to publication by her husband – the BBC’s Economics Editor, Robert Peston. Apple Tree Yard, by Louise Doughty, shortlisted for the Specsavers Crime & Thriller of the year award, also makes it onto the list. Other titles include: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion, The Never List by Koethi Zan, Longbourn by Jo Baker, Rage Against the Dying by debut novelist Becky Masterman and Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld.

"If there’s one thing we’ve discovered in selecting titles for the Richard and Judy Book Club, it’s just how many talented writers really are out there," says Richard. "We’re delighted to reveal this diverse list to kick start the new year - rest assured every one of them is an absolute page-turner. You won’t be able to put them down!”

“I couldn’t agree more," Judy continued. "We’re thrilled with the latest eight titles we’ve chosen and there really is something for everyone, ranging from gripping thrillers to laugh-out-loud humour. We hope readers continue to enjoy them as much as we have done.”

Readers eager to find out more about the books and the authors can once again log on to the Richard and Judy Book Club website where they’ll find a unique forum to exchange thoughts with Richard and Judy and the authors themselves.

The website also boasts an ultimate and exclusive guide to all the Book Club titles, as well as offering access to an abundance of additional content that covers everything you will ever need to know about the duo’s favourite Book Club books and authors. From news and reviews, exclusive content, sample chapters and archive material; to downloadable podcasts - the website has it all, adding even more value for book-worms across the country.

Richard and Judy’s hugely popular podcast series is also back for 2014 with the first podcast in the series, featuring Richard and Judy’s interview with Jodi Picoult, available to download now. Podcasts are released every fortnight and feature exclusive interviews with each of the authors on this season’s list. With a consistent position at the top of the iTunes Literature chart, the Richard and Judy Podcast has clearly made its mark amongst the duo’s ever increasing digital audience.

And finally, Richard and Judy’s Search for a Bestseller has now closed! The duo are now reading all the entries to discover a new, literary talent. Response to the competition has been excellent and the shortlisted entries will be announced on 1 March 2014. For further information visit www.richardandjudy.co.uk/beabestseller
