The ‘suicide pact’ that never was

It began when we gave an interview to a newspaper to launch the eight novels we’ve selected for the summer read list in our book club with WHSmith.

It was a wide-ranging chat, and not surprisingly we found ourselves talking about death.

Readers of this column will know that Richard’s mum died just a few weeks ago and there’s nothing like a death in the family to concentrate the mind on the end of life.

We’ve been talking a lot about this and that’s good.

Here in the UK we avoid the subject of death but it needs to be aired and we all need to discuss our own thoughts on it with our nearest and dearest.
