Richard and Chloe sleep on the Streets to raise money for Centrepoint

Tuesday 8 November 2011

Richard Madeley and daughter Chloe are spending tonight on the street in the UK’s largest sleep out. Youth homelessness charity, Centrepoint have organised its 7th annual Sleep Out as its ‘Home for Christmas’ campaign kicks off. The event will bring Celebrities including X-Factor finalist Rebecca Ferguson, Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox and and former Tottenham Hotspur footballer David Ginola along with 650 city workers bed down in Exchange Square, near Liverpool Street. Bringing the participants a step closer to the reality of homelessness while hopefully raising their target figure £250,000 to help kick start their Christmas appeal. The money will support 513 young homeless people this winter. That will include a warm bed, mental health support and help into education, training and employment.

Richard and Chloe will experience the discomfort of trying to sleep on boxes on a hard, cold floor among the bright lights of the city and the noise of street cleaners, buses and late night revelers. However the Sleep Out isn’t just about raising money and awareness, soldiers from 3 Mobile Catering Squadron RAF Wittering will be manning a mobile kitchen to keep sleepers fed and watered throughout the night and there will be plenty of entertainment, including a bedtime story from Christopher Biggins and special performances from Rebecca Ferguson and Busk Idol winner Kristyna Myles.

You can support the event by sending a text donation to 70070 using the code CPSO11 (e.g. text ‘CPSO11 £10’ to donate £10) or visit www.justgiving.com/CentrepointSleepOut11.
